Sandilyan was a pen name for Bhashyam Iyengar. He is an Indian author. He is best known for his Tamil historical fiction works. His historical romance and adventure stories are set in the Chola and Pandya empires, and he is well-known for them. Sandilyan was born to Ramanujam Iyengar and Poongovilvalli on November 10, 1910 in Tirukoilur, Tamil Nadu. Thiruindalur, a village near Mayiladuthurai, was where his family came from. He attended Saidapet Model School and Pachaiyappa’s School in Chennai. Tiruchirappalli St. Joseph’s College provided him with his education. C. Rajagopalachari’s visit to his institution led him to join the Indian independence struggle. He joined the Indian National Congress and was elected as a member of the party. Ranganayaki, whom he married in 1929, was his second wife.

Sandilyan’s most well-known novels were serialized in Kumudam, a weekly Tamil magazine, which was significant in growing distribution. He was one of the few Tamil novelists who was paid a monthly wage by Kumudam for his work. He tried unsuccessfully to run a weekly magazine called Kamalam after leaving Kumudam. Vanadhi Padhippagam published his historical novels in book form, and they became big sellers.
