Today in this post I am pointing out some tips for speaking English fluently. An average-level English learner can improve his or her English speaking by following the ways cited below:

Best Tips to Improve Your English Speaking Fluency

Best Tips to Improve Your English Speaking Fluency:

1. First Start Speaking English As much As Possible:

Consider starting from your home. I guess you are a non-native speaker if you are reading this post. Have you ever considered speaking with your family members in English? Yes, you read it right. Sounds weird right? But believe me, it works.

Arrange a meeting with all your family members. Come up with a polite and humble proposal like dedicating a fixed time during which members will be allowed to speak to each other only in English. To be specific, speaking in a language other than English won’t be allowed among members. This would benefit you as well as all your family members. Rather, such practice would enrich you all enabling elders to improve and young ones to keep practicing outside their schools or colleges. Consider having frequent contact with English speaking instead of spending more time in studies.

2. Increase Your Input:

You should increase your English input as much as you can. Always carry a book or a newspaper with you and listen mostly to the online story lessons, news, and audio articles (podcasts) readily available on the internet. You can also download the podcasts of radio news programs and listen to them while traveling, cooking, and so on. Being a beginner you can begin with reading novels and short storybooks for children to make it easier for you to understand enabling you to grab the language faster at the same time. Such practices would help you a lot in dealing with your English fluency.

3. Listening Makes It Easier:

Listening to English music gives you a touch of English culture and an idea about the thoughts and feelings of the people who speak English. Familiarity with English songs and artists makes it easier for you to grab the language. Watching movies gives you opportunities to learn English words in context. If you like romance movies you will begin to learn words and expressions related to the context very rapidly after watching a couple of movies at the very least, whereas in a classroom environment or in a traditional academic English learning system you learn a common general vocabulary list and their meanings as well. There is no harm in this approach but in this process, you might fail to apply when and how to use them practically.

4. Start Conversing with Real Partners:

Being human beings we need language to express ourselves, to communicate with each other. It shows that you need to speak up to meet your needs. So, why not in English? Studies reflect that speaking a language helps to learn it way better than reading or writing practices. In most cases, people are found saying they can’t speak English but they can understand it. What you should do is be Involved in conversation with native speakers. This would allow you to get acquainted with informal language exchange. Speaking ability can also be improved through regular listening and reading practices. In fact, while conversing with an English-speaking person you are actually listening to him and trying to emulate him in your own way. Native English-speaking partners are available online if you want. Yes! Native English speakers are out there available on conversation exchange websites. There you can meet and converse with one of them who might be eager to learn your mother tongue as well. This might be a unique way to benefit from each other. Interesting right?

Go and try one.

5. Don’t Think of Yourself as a Non-native:

You won’t be able to speak fluently if you aren’t confident enough. You have to be one of them and pretend to be a native speaker. Forget about your mistakes. Don’t bind yourself to a limit for you never know what your limit is. But, at the same time read a lot and call up what you have learned today. There is always something to learn anew. Believe me, you’ll continue to improve your skills if you just keep on practicing.

6. Pay Equal Attention to All the Areas:

There are different areas of learning and speaking English fluently. These are reading, writing, and speaking English. Other major aspects of proficiency in speaking English like the native include listening skills, vocabulary development, and grammar. Most of the beginners fail to pay equal attention to all the areas mentioned above. They tend to focus on two or three areas; specifically those they feel ease dealing with. Such habits would do no more than making them weaker in other areas. Just split your time and divide them among all the areas evenly for studying and practicing with equal attention.

7. Keep an Eye on Different Contexts of the English Language:

The English language is more diverse than you think. Different contexts of the same language are used in different walks of life. Such as Educational or academic, comic, conversational, informal, etc. For example, programs like English news and academic lectures contain the formal style of English speaking whereas conversations in movies and TV serials are often found to contain informal language filled more with idioms and native slang. So, if one follows only one or two contexts of the English language, he or she might lack the vocabulary necessary for the other in order to be fluent in speaking English.

8. Think Everything in English:

It’s very common among non-native speakers to think of anything in their mother tongue or native language and then translate it into English. This seems quite an easy process for them but keep in mind that you won’t be fluent in English speaking unless you stop doing so.

“Success remains beyond your comfort zone”. Didn’t you hear that before? This is the bottom line. Try to eat, drink, sleep and think in English to be fluent in English speaking. This, in fact, is one of the major factors responsible for making people not being capable of speaking English fluently despite spending dozens if not hundreds of hours of hard work and practice.

9. Don’t Be Afraid of Making Mistakes:

This probably is the strongest thing that has been keeping you from speaking English fluently making you feel ashamed. Everyone makes mistakes. Making errors is one of the most primary humane traits. We are not machines. So what’s the big deal? You must have heard the saying “to err is human” meaning its common for us as human beings to make mistakes no matter how simple the task we are given is.

Beginner English speakers are commonly worried about making mistakes while speaking English. Sometimes they feel ashamed of making mistakes. But the fact today is to communicate your thoughts to others is much more important and necessary than your bothering about making mistakes. If someone says: “It is raining for a week”. Obviously, this is an incorrect sentence which should be “It has been raining for a week.” But even if the tense used in the sentence is inappropriate the sentence successfully conveys the thought contained in it. So, the most important thing is to communicate your thoughts and in doing so you will learn to correct your errors with time. Just keep on speaking English.

10. Never Give Up and Keep Going:

Don’t let yourself down if you face difficulty as it poses challenges to almost all non-native English speakers at some point. Giving up is very easy compared to accepting the challenges with an open mind. You have nothing to lose. So don’t give up. Rather, erase all the ideas, words, and phrases that make you feel “I can’t do it” from your mind. See the progress you have made and feel the positive side of the fact, the other side of the coin. Nothing in this world is always easy. Keep yourself saying that you might be slow but you are improving every day. Think of your early-stage and be happy that you are now much more fluent in speaking English than you were a couple of months ago.
